You should realize by now that that there is HOPE while you are stuck building your MLM business the old traditional way. The internet is a big goldmine just simply waiting for the right person to come along and dig into it.

One of the most basic principles you should realize in starting an MLM business is the importance of building your list!

It’s probably the first thing your uplines required from you when you started in your company. It can be a 10 person namelist or 1000. The number doesn’t really matter but the important thing is that you are building a list. Now, there are generally three ways to generate that list.

1. The people you know and the people they know, this is called your WARM or SEMI-  WARM list.

2. Purchase a generic lead from a lead company — this is called your COLD list.

3. Or you can generate your own.

For most of us we started out with our warm list. It’s the list of people you know who are primarily your friends and family. It’s the ones whom you would personally enjoy working with in your business but unfortunately is also the list where you experience the most painful rejections.

But there is something about a warm list that most people don’t realize that is the cause of the most frustration and rejection. And these two limitations are…

Limitation 1: Your WARM LIST is HIGHLY NON-TARGETED and UNQUALIFIED.

When you approach people in your warm market most of the time they have NOT even asked for what you have to offer. And this leads to a lot of rejection because you really
DON’T KNOW if they are interested in your offer.

Now assuming that they do join you, most of them end up as fence sitters or quitters because they really don’t have what it takes to succeed in this business.

Limitation 2:  The question of QUANTITY.

You only have a few people in your warm list and after that then it would dry up. Perhaps only 3% of networkers can generate endless leads from their warm market. And the rest will just simply cease their business building.

So what do you do next? Buy generic leads. That’s what they are telling you! But generic leads are much worse. You DON’T KNOW if they are interested in your offer. You DON’T KNOW if they are even fit for network marketing. You DON’T KNOW them and they DON’T KNOW you. At the end, using generic leads will only frustrate you big time.

Result? You might as well expect more rejections. And frankly be prepared to sound like a call center telemarketer at their end of the line.

Now I’m not saying that it’s wrong to work your warm and cold market. I just feel that it is not a very professional way to build an MLM business anymore. Just be prepared for a lot of rejections if you do this.

Now if you are like me, you are reading this because you are looking for solutions. An alternative way to build your list and that is what I will tell you now.

The solution to the two limitations of your warm market is really very simple. For limitation #1 it’s just simply MARKETING!

Marketing is simply the art of bringing your offer in front of people who have shown interest in it. It is not intrusive and no hard selling.

Do you ever notice the ads in TV, radio and billboards? They are very creative in how they present their offer to you right? And once they got your attention you call them and they don’t call you. And that is exactly what we would want for our MLM business.

When you know who your market is and how to meet their needs there will be no chasing after people. Instead, they will look for you.

The solution for limitation number 2 is to generate your own list, which is the third way of list building as mentioned earlier.

Notice that I used the term generate and not buy. Because buying generic leads is just a waste of time and money. Remember how even more limited your cold list is?

But you don’t just go about generating a random list. You generate a list of highly targeted people who have shown interest in what you have to offer.

This is done through the first piece of real estate you should have in the internet which is called a “lead page”.

In this page people give their name and email address to you through a web form in exchange for a free item or a free solution that you are offering to them.

Now imagine if you have even just 3 people added to that list every day, what would that do to your business?

In only a month you would have 100 new people to talk to about your business. And these people have already told you that they are interested in what you have to offer.

They have opened their doors for you to talk to them. Now wouldn’t that be nice?

Do you realize now that it is possible to build your MLM business using the internet? Do you realize now that this was never taught in your MLM company? Do you realize now that you’ve got a fighting chance in this strategy because people have yet to discover the benefits of this?

It is time to go MLM the better way!

We all know how it is more important to build your own list of prospects online in comparison to probably just having a list of your friends and family or wasting money purchasing cold and non-responsive generic leads. And frankly, I still have to meet a successful online marketer or networker who earns huge money online but did not build a subscribers or mailing list. Yes, it is quite true that the money is on the list.

Today I thought on sharing three common ways online marketers are building their list and at the same time I will pinpoint my personal preference out of the three.

1. Opt-in form in a lead page. This is I think the most popular among the three. A lead page is fundamentally a focused website that offers enticing reason or reasons so that visitors leave their name and email address in exchange for something like a valuable piece of information that they might be interested in.

Generally, a lead page is a sales page that draws visitors to do only two courses of action — leave or give their name and email in exchange for information (most likely e-books, reports, videos or any valuable digital material).

The opt-in form then is where the visitors input their contact information and once they do it they instantly become part of your mailing list.

2. Pop-up form in your website. Based on its name, this is a form that pops-up in your site which presents the supposedly benefits you are giving out to your eager visitors in return for their contact information.

The pop-up may come out in any part of the site but most likely it is set it to appear only at selected time intervals so as not to disrupt and irritate the visitors.

3. Using email. This form of list building uses mainly your email. In exchange for some free items, you will ask prospects to send a blank email to a specific address as specified in your list building software.

Though this is a less popular method, this is particularly good if you are searching for prospects from an email list like Yahoogroup or other email groups you are a member of.

You send an email to people or groups and just post the instruction on sending an email to your address. There is no need to go to a website or even enter any information as they just need to send a blank email to a specific address.

Of the three, I am personally more inclined to use lead pages because it presents a much focused page that leads your visitor to a course of action. Honestly, pop-ups can be a bit irritating and I personally don’t like seeing pop-ups whenever I go to a site.

So there you have it – the three effective ways in building an opt-in list!
