Working At Home
As far as work-at-home entrepreneurs are concerned, time is the most important single commodity they have. There is no other asset that could replace time. It is in fact very valuable and precious. Once time is spent then nobody could take it back. You can only plan for the coming time and not be able to reclaim it.
All of us whether rich, famous or not are given the same fixed 24-hour day. Even if you wish to add more hours to a single day, it won’t happen anytime soon. The only thing we can do is plan our time so as to maximize its use and hopefully returns.
Out of the twenty-four fixed hours a day, we also have to spend some of them in other non-work related things. For one, we must have a good six to eight hours of sleep. We of course, must prepare and eat foods for sustenance. Not to mention, family concerns that have to be taken cared of. And don’t forget other personal needs as simple as grooming and taking a relaxing hot bath. Oh well, we are really running out of time!
As mentioned, our loved ones and even good friends necessitate allocation of some of our available waking time. Remember that to make it grow, relationships need to be nourished and nurtured well. Because the allotted working time is limited we must make sure we are maximizing it. There is no point on wasting time in unnecessary tasks which others can easily accomplish.
When you are able to trim a few minutes here and there, an efficient time management could ensue. Below are some important ideas in order to save more time and accomplish more things at the same time.
1. Limit your email accounts. I know that most of us are having multiple email accounts in different sites. Personally, I have at least 5 Yahoomail and at least 7 Gmail accounts. Certainly, opening and reading those emails can take enormous time. We have the tendency to use one account for this purpose and probably another account for another reason. If you are going to check them each and every day, you are consuming more time just for this task. So what should you do? Of course, the best thing to do is to limit your email account to a single account or a maximum of just two.
In reading your emails, take note of an email sent to many recipients as most likely it is just another time waster. Email has the potential to consume good amount of time. You must be able to filter the important ones from the irrelevant and spams. Just spend the time opening and reading emails related to your business or job.
2. Use an office table and set up priorities. Having a fixed work day is a well-organized schedule. You can accomplish many things with less time if you aware in advance and can already project the tasks next on line. As humans, we cling to visual aids as a sign of comfort and foundation for productivity. In this connection, a time table is a good visual aid which could help in managing time not just efficiently but also productively!
3. Concentrate more on result-producing tasks. In planning the work day schedule, make sure that the tasks scheduled are the ones that could create more impact for the business in terms of growth both short-term and long-term. There is no point in pretending to be a superman and do all the tasks yourself. Learn to delegate and outsource the non-critical and mundane things to others. For instance, why not hire outsourced workers for bookkeeping and accounting, article/e-Book writing and submission, travel and event planning and ad writing? Remember that other people can be able to perform these tasks efficiently than you can at a cheaper cost.
4. Limit counter-productive activities. As mentioned, friends and family members are demanding some of our precious time so it would help if we will not spend some of it on unproductive activities such as watching TV, playing PC games and just plain and non-sense conversation with a friendly neighbor.
Analyzing the way you are spending your time and planning a good work day can surprisingly keep you productive and efficient leading to a thriving and earning home-based business.
But don’t me wrong. We all need time for some relaxation and recharging energy. We are not programmed robots so it can not be all business at all times. With that in mind, it is more important to plan ahead so as to give the right time for relaxation and other non-work pleasurable activities.
Our time is limited and so precious so it is necessary that we make the very best out of it as much as we can.
It is all about time management!
